F.S. Blumm

"Berlin resident and multi-instrumentalist Frank Schültge Blumm describes himself as an "ear worker." Born in Bremen on July 16, 1967, Blumm studied music art, educational science, and classical guitar. His early projects focused on noise (Blumm's way of rebelling against the classical guitar), but his work became more structured once he became interested in radio plays. A move to Berlin in 1997 found Blumm collaborating more, most notably with Harald "Sack" Ziegler for the Sack & Blumm project, and his radio plays were being broadcast across Germany. Having already released records on the Staubgold, Gefriem, and Audio Dregs labels, Blumm came to most people's attention in 2001 when he released Mondkuchen, one of the only "acoustic" records on the generally electronica-leaning Morr Music. In 2002, Staubgold released his dreamy Ankern album."


Snailhouse

"Snailhouse was the lo-fi solo project of Wooden Stars singer/guitarist Mike Feuerstack. Beginning his musical career during the late '80s with the Moncton, New Brunswick-based punk combo the Underdogs upon relocating to Ottawa, Ontario, Feuerstack began writing and recording as Snailhouse in 1990, putting the project on hold with the formation of the Wooden Stars three years later. Both the Wooden Stars' self-titled debut and the first Snailhouse release, Fine, appeared in 1995; a year later, Feuerstack issued a Snailhouse single, "Plans," on Julie Doiron's Sappy label. The Radio Dances appeared in 1998, and the following year the Wooden Stars backed Doiron for a full-length LP, which earned a Canadian Juno Award for Best Alternative Album. Fine was reissued on the Grand Theft Autumn label in the spring of 2000."


Kepler

"While going under the moniker of Kepler, the quartet of Mike Sheridan, Jon Georgekishwatt, Samir Khan, and Weights and Measures drummer Jeremy Gara brought on a mellow, noise-driven indie sound to their native Ottawa. Upon their 1997 formation, Spectra Sonic Sound Records released the band's debut single "Between Still Sheets"/"Can You Steer By Mars?" in 1999. A five song CDEP, This Heart Is Painted On, followed that same year. The half new/half outtakes CD Fuck, Fight, Fail was released in 2000."

Montag



"Montag, Antoine Bédard's alter ego (from Montreal), is one of the most promising musicians of the Canadian electronic music scene. His first album, entitled "Are you a Friend?", was released on Gooom Disques (M83, Cyann & Ben, Abstrackt Keal Agram) in 2002 - an album of memories expressed through a discreet and deeply nostalgic sound where analog pop meets digital technology. With "Alone, not alone", Montag goes further in his exploration of themes such as memory but with more confidence this time. His music is just as intimate and personal but with more emphasis on acoustic sounds which bring more richness to his musical universe than ever. As a kind of orchestra-man, Montag offers short compositions with a micro-symphonic feel and a fundamentally emotional dimension. His music has seduced M83, resulting in their first collaboration on " Dead Cities , Red Seas and Lost Ghosts". Antoine has also recently completed string arrangements for their forthcoming album.

In 2003, Antoine released an EP on UK 's Aï records, toured Canada twice, played live in France and was invited to perform at Montreal 's prestigious Mutek Festival. His live performances also include opening for bands such as Broadcast, Lali Puna, Hood, Stars and Momus.

On "Alone, not alone", Montag delivers some orchestral pop where vocals have a noticeable importance - Antoine's passion for vintage atmospheres and naive melodies find a balanced mix with the album's electronic elements. Having learned the violin as a child, it is easy to understand why Montag wanted to include classical instrumentation in his recordings. Used to working on his own, this time Antoine wanted to involve his friends in the making of the album. Collaborators include James Cardiff (bass and electronics - of Broadcast), Francis Amireault (drums - of Cian Éthrie), Amy Millan (vocals, of Stars and Broken Social Scene), Ariel Engle (vocals). The album was mastered by Sixtoo (Ninja Tune), one of Montreal best known hip hop artists. Through these collaborations, Montag brings a different meaning to the album's title."



Text Adventure



"Text Adventure is the collaborative product of music machine manipulator David Roy and gentle crooner Steven Scott from Glasgow, Scotland. David's gentle folk guitars, computer game influenced casio keyboard lines, electronic beat programming and experimental noise, are carried along by Steven's bittersweet vocals about love and murder. The result has been described as Happy-sad tiny epics, bitter-sweet and lovely, all rolled into one.

The Golden Portion is the duo's debut full-length release, following 2004's critically acclaimed MP3-only EP "Fantastic Disaster" on Skylab Operations' sister-label, Observatory (www.observatoryonline.org). With a gentle blend of guitars and electronics, gently pushing Steven's vocals out in front, "The Golden Portion" takes the listener on a 10-track trip through the land of heartbreak and murder, of which fans of everyone from The Postal Service to Jon Anderson w/ Vangelis can appreciate."
